“Fire Next Time” is a book by James Baldwin written back in the 60’s about race relations in the United States and also about the influences of Christian black churches as well as Islam on the culture.  The title of the book comes from the first line of a black spiritual that starts, “God gave Noah the rainbow sign, no more water, fire next time”.  Peter talks about this in his second letter, the third chapter – “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.”

Today is the commemoration of Noah
