yearsI had a strange experience the other day as the year turned over.  I was signing up for a “Vitality for Today” app suggested by Health Care and Ancillary Products from Concordia Heath Care (one of the ways that our church trys to take care of church workers) and I had to give them my birth day.  Instead of just typing in the numbers I had to use the digital input where you scroll back in time.  I was surprised how long it took to scroll back to my birthday.  I also had one of those moments when I was reading about the Viking Head Coach Zimmer.  I was thinking that they finally got a seasoned veteran old coach and I found out that he is younger than I am.

Anyway, another year over, a new one just begun, and it is still Christmas and what have we done?  That is a paraphrase of John Lennon “So This Is Christmas”.  What have we done should change to what has Christ done?  We are redeemed and now we can spend the new year helping others.  As Paul tells the Galatians –

For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.  So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

Tornados and floods across the nation are giving us opportunity.  LCMS.org will help us help others.  Check it out.
