1 Peter 4 –
8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
I head off tomorrow for Mayo. I have had so many calls, notes and cards. I have so many who are willing to put themselves out for me. The gracious words shared with me are pure tonic and invigorating when I get weary. I have said before that the members of my churches put up with my sin and silliness and accepted me for the only thing that I have wanted to do and be, and that was a teller of the “good story” that Jesus Christ came to save sinners and I am one.
During this “slight momentary affliction” all these stewards of God’s various grace have reminded me that it is producing an eternal weight of glory beyond description. Their solicitude and love have been a generous bolster and their hospitality a reflection of Jesus ineluctable kindness.
Just as with Christ’s mercy at some point all we can say is thank you.
Prayers are with you for safe travels and for the doctors who will be examining you. Dress warm as starting tomorrow we are to be bitterly cold.
