Is it possible to cancel Thanksgiving? For years I grumbled about the concept of a political proclamation to be thankful, (Abraham Lincoln 1863). I don’t argue with the sentiment, after all it is a Biblical injunction, but the process. Declaring everyone should be thankful and making it so is pretty tough; ask any preacher. Thankfulness is the result of a conviction of first article gifts given “out of pure divine goodness and mercy”. Thankfulness itself is a gift.
