Just got this picture of what I would call an iconic tree on our old cemetery lot that was struck by lightning and split from the top to the bottom. I don’t know how long the tree has been there but it was  big when I came here 40 some years ago.  It sits like a sentinel on the prairie as if giving shelter and shade to this dormitory of the faithful departed.  It’s a contemplative place at sun set and quite lovely in the mornings. It gave shade and a cool breeze to those who came to visit the final resting place of their loved ones,  and it is a wonderful resting place for the birds. Hopefully we can do something to fix this so this old tree can stand Sentinel for years to come .
